Two animated films feature in the top 10 Japanese box office for 2020

Bunkatsushinsha has announced the ten best Japanese box office movies for 2020. Including the highest grossing film of all time, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the movie: Mugen Train, two animated films made the top ten list this year, two down from last year’s four (Alter with you, Detective Conan: The Fist of the Blue Sapphire, STAMP ONE PIECE, Doraemon: Nobita’s Chronicle on Exploring the Moon).

As we have pointed out several times, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba the movie: Mugen Train dominated the Japanese box office with overwhelming force. The film grossed 32,478,895,850 yen ($ 318 million) in its 11th week, or 243% of the 13.37 billion yen (129 million yen) earned by the highest grossing foreign film of 2020 in Japan, Frozen II.

Arriving fourth was the adaptation of the live feature film from the comic manga by Hiroyuki Nishimori Kyo Kara Ore Wa !!, which grossed 5.37 billion yen ($ 52 million) to become the highest-grossing Japanese live-action film of this year. He also became the director Yuichi fukuda (Gintama live-action film series) the highest grossing film of his career.

And, Doraemon: Nobita’s new dinosaur, the 40th feature film in the Doraemon animation franchise, ranks seventh with 3.35 billion yen ($ 32 million), or 34% less than the 5.02 billion yen ($ 48 million) earned by the 39th movie Doraemon: Nobita’s Chronicle on Exploring the Moon in 2019.
