Studio Colorido and Netflix will co-produce 3 animated films

Animation Studio Studio Colorido signed a multi-year deal with the streaming giant netflix, to co-produce a total of three animated films. The list includes an upcoming film from Tomotaka Shibayama, the director of At a glance. The movie still doesn’t have a title, but it’s slated for release in 2024.

In a comment posted on the official website, Shibayama explained the concept behind the upcoming film:The new film that I am currently preparing is the story of a mysterious love and takes place during a winter season. I would like to deliver a work that will be a song of joy for everyone, while carefully depicting the extraordinary things that suddenly happen in everyday life and the emotional growth of the characters. We hope you enjoy it.”

Mari Okada wrote the script and Mina Kubota did the music. The opening of the movie “Hana ni Borei” and ending “Usotsuki” are both performed by Japanese rock duo Yorushika.

According to Colorido studio president Koji Yamamoto, the deal with Netflix will aim to create works that truly show the “uniqueness” of the studio’s creative direction. He also added that they are working hard and making progress in their own way to achieve this goal.

Netflix connects Japanese movies to users around the world. In the next 10 years, we want to continue making original works unique to Colorido with confidence. We will use this milestone of 10 years since our inception as an opportunity to work with Netflix to deliver such “works that are unique [Studio] Colorido” to the world.
