Absolution animated series announced by Netflix
dragon age is getting its own animated series on Netflix. Dragon Age: Absolution just announced and the next anime based on BioWare’s hit game franchise is coming to the streaming service later this year!
The new anime was announced on the last day of Netflix Geeked Week, where the first teaser for the show was released. Dragon Age: Absolution features several new characters that haven’t been featured in the games, and the teaser promises plenty of major action.
There are not many details about Dragon Age: Absolution at present. However, it has been confirmed that the story will take place in Tevinter, an empire within the dragon age universe. The series is also created by Mairghread Scott who will serve as showrunner. Red Dog Culture House will produce the six-episode anime in collaboration with BioWare.
As of now, the characters that will appear in the series have yet to be announced, but fans can expect “a cast of new characters inspired by and authentic to Dragon Age lore; including elves, Mages, Knights, Qunari, Red Templars, Demons, and other special surprises.”
BioWare released the first game Dragon Age: Origins in 2009 and the franchise has since expanded to six titles in the main series, numerous spin-off games, an anime movie, books, a webtoon series, action figures, and even a tabletop RPG.
Dragon Age: Absolution isn’t the only major franchise content to be announced this year. Earlier in June, BioWare announced that the final game in the series would be called Dragon Age: Dreadwolf and will follow Solas, which was first introduced in Dragon Age: Inquisition. Development of the game started in 2015, so fans are excited to hear that it now has an official title and will be moving forward.
Dragon Age: Absolution hasn’t received an official release date yet but is set to stream on Netflix in December 2022.
